TOYOTA Australia has recalled around 13,390 HiLux utes due to a loss of power steering assistance, which could increase the risk of an accident "causing injury or death."

HiLux utes produced between August 2025 and February 2026 may be impacted. Toyota said the recall relates to utes fitted with a Toyota Genuine Accessory bull bar or nudge bar with light bar, warning the wiring harness may have been incorrectly installed. It said this could compromise the earth connection to the Electric Power Steering (EPS) module, potentially rendering the EPS inoperative.

Toyota Australia will contact all owners of involved vehicles to provide details of the safety recall campaign, however it has asked owners to keep their contact details up to date with Toyota so future communications can be received.

All involved utes will need to be inspected, and if required, the EPS earth terminal orientation will be corrected at no charge to owners. Toyota said inspection and correction will take approximately 30 minutes, but depending on the Dealer's work schedule, owners may be required to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.

The Toyota HiLux utes involved in the Australian market are within the following VIN range:
