MERCEDES-Benz has recalled almost 6000 of its X Class utes due to an issue with the vehicles’ Active Brake Assist.

The models affected are those built from 1 February 2018 to 30 August 2019 (5826 vehicles).

The issue involves the Active Brake Assist system which may mistakenly detect an obstacle and brake suddenly or unexpectedly.

If the vehicle brakes suddenly or unexpectedly, or comes to a complete stop, there is an increased risk of an accident and serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants or other road users.

Consumers are asked to contact their most convenient Mercedes-Benz retailer for a free software update.

The recall follows an announcement earlier this year that Mercedes-Benz will not be continuing production of the Nissan Navara-based X-Class ute. That announcement was made less than three years after the ute was officially launched to market.
