Respected sheep industry economist, John Young, was commissioned by the WA Government to prepare the report, which provides in-depth economic analysis and practical solutions for farmers.

The report encourages farmers to make plans early and seek professional guidance when navigating the months ahead and includes technical tips and strategies for managing challenging conditions.

Agriculture and food minister, Jackie Jarvis, said the The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's (DPIRD) report offers free in-depth and up to date information, which sheep producers can use to develop constructive plans for their own operations.

"The Sheep management in 2023-24 report is another way the Cook Government and DPIRD are helping sheep farmers during this tough time," she said.

"It's so important as well that producers look after their mental health and I would urge anyone struggling to use the free financial and counselling services available."

The report can be accessed for free via DPIRD's Season 2023 webpages, alongside a host of supporting resources.

The webpages also provide tools to assist with decision making, from feed budgeting and nutrition, to grazing options as well as land resource management, and links to a range of support resources including the Rural Support Directory.
