All sheep and goats born in Victoria after 1 January 2017 will need electronic identification (eID) tags, as announced by the Victorian Minister for Agriculture in August 2016. A period of public consultation followed the Ministerial announcement, during which time over 400 stakeholders were consulted and 46 written submissions made, with 70 per cent of recommendations made in submissions upheld.
