Matt and Fiona will join 2016 Australian Farmer of the Year Award winner, Matthew Keith, to determine the winners of the 8th annual awards event.

Matt Linnegar, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, said he was honoured to be part of the awards which recognises the incredible work of farmers and farming families across the country.

"I believe this awards program uncovers the real warriors of Australian agriculture," Mr Linnegar said.

"We as an industry know they are out there, but it fantastic to have an awards program that truly shines a light on their achievements."

National Farmers’ Federation President and Liverpool Plains farmer Fiona Simson said the awards program was one of the most significant in the agricultural community, and that she was looking forward to seeing the level of nominations received this year.

“It is always fantastic to see the farmers discovered each year by Kondinin Group and ABC Rural,” Ms Simson said.

“It is a grand occasion when all agriculture sectors can stand together and applaud the strength and success of our industry - and acknowledge that our farmers really are amongst the best in the world.”

Matthew Keith has enjoyed a busy year since being awarded the 2016 Australian Farmer of the Year Award on behalf of the Keith Family.

“Winning the award last year really solidified that we were on the right track with our farming business,” Mr Keith said.

“I think I will be able to provide good insight to the judging panel, from a peer perspective, and will certainly be able to give the winners a few tips for their journey ahead.”

The judging process for the awards begins with a shortlisting process, involving representatives from Kondinin Group and ABC Rural plus sponsors WFI, Case IH, BASF, Market Check and Harvest Tyres. The Independent Judges will review the shortlisted nominations and unanimously decide on a winner for each category.

Judging begins mid-June.

Winners will be announced at an exclusive Announcement Lunch at Parliament House on 16 August. Flights and accommodation make up part of the winner’s prize.
