The free helmets and training will be offered to all farmers in regional NSW and comes after the addition of safety rebates that were doubled in March this year.

Four people have lost their lives in NSW quad bike accidents this year, including a six-year-old girl.  

NSW Farmers said the group was pleased the Berejiklian Government was now offering further incentives to farmers in an effort to drive down quad bike accidents.

NSW Farmers’ CEO Matt Brand said any effort to improve quad bike safety is always welcome.

“Sadly we’ve seen five people lose their lives in quad bike accidents in NSW this year alone and far too many people injured,” Brand said.

“Quad bikes are often an essential piece of equipment on farms but they’re not toys. Users need to show just as much care riding one as they would any on road vehicle,” he said.

NSW Farmers is also calling for a five star safety rating system for quad bikes, similar to ratings given to cars outlining safety features.

State Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, Matthew Kean, said boosting training opportunities was vital.

"We've seen over 200 people take up the training course as available to date," Kean said.

"This is about removing a barrier to accessing that training,” he said.

"That's why we're rolling out a free training package and a free helmet for those who access the training package, saving farmers up to $230 and making sure that they're safe in the workplace."

Farmers who take part in the approved training courses will receive a helmet valued at around $120.
