Director of Meteorology Andrew Johnson said the app continuously updates with data streaming from the Bureau's Australia-wide observing and forecasting network.

"BOM Weather gives smartphone users current temperature, wind and humidity and the chances of rain throughout the day, for any location in Australia, at their fingertips," Johnson said.

"It also provides users with the latest images from our popular rain radar, current weather warnings, the Bureau's official three-hourly forecasts for the day and also forecasts for the week ahead.

"We have focused on developing a simple, easy-to-use app, so you can quickly find the most-requested data from our website.

"BOM Weather supplies the weather information most people want to access quickly and easily so they can plan their day."

Users can view weather information for their current location, favourite locations and other capital cities.

More detailed weather information will continue to be available at www.bom.gov.au.

BOM Weather can now be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. For more information, including FAQs and how-to guides, go to www.bom.gov.au/app.
