FROM THE WORKSHOP

Silicone-bronze MIG welding workshop coming up

Ever tried to make a neat join between two pieces of 1mm galvanised steel with a MIG welder?

This article is 5 years old. Images might not display.

Sure, you'll need to buy some specialist silicone bronze MIG wire and some pure Argon gas, but silicone-bronze MIG wire allows the MIG welder to be used for some normally very delicate jobs reserved for the oxy-acetylene gas torch.

Butt joining 1mm thick galvanised section or vehicle panels is normally difficult with a MIG welder without distortion. Likewise, joining two different metals would be just as hard.

And as for repairing cast iron, that is normally a job for specialist arc-welding electrodes or the oxy-acetylene kit.

Kondinin Group engineer, Josh Giumelli tells us this month how to do all of the above successfully using the MIG welder with some specialist MIG wire and shielding gas.

It is one of our monthly 'From the Workshop' articles which will appear in the July edition of Farming Ahead.

A growing series of reports, each focused on a key discussion point for the farming sector, brought to you by the Kondinin team.
