The project currently has 15 farms participating in the Riverine Plains region of New South Wales and Victoria and Riverine Plains Inc is looking for another 15 farms to join the program which aims to study greenhouse gas emissions on farm.

The ACFI is supported by global food company Mars Incorporated as part of an effort to reduce the environmental impacts of its business. In Australia, Mars Petcare is a significant buyer of gain from southern New South Wales and Victoria.

Farmers who participate in the program will receive support in the use of the Cool Farm Tool greenhouse gas calculator as well as GPS located soil sampling of up to five wheat paddocks per year, along with technical support for interpreting Cool Farm Tool results and soil tests.

The Cool Farm Tool has been tested and adopted by a range of other multinational companies including Nestle and McDonalds through their membership of the International Cool Farm Alliance.

The Cool Farm Alliance works with industry suppliers to measure, manage and ultimately reduce greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to address global climate change.
