The annual "Weed control in winter crops" publication, available free and online, is packed full of useful and current information to achieve good weed control management.
Yield losses caused by weeds can vary enormously from being almost negligible to a complete loss and weeds lower crop yields by competing for soil moisture, nutrients, space and light. Weeds can also be a source of diseases which attack crops.
This competition reduces grain yield and quality, and can impede harvesting.
The 2019 publication contains up-to-date recommendations and best practice management advice for growers to apply on-farm.
The guide also contains information about new herbicides which have been registered in the past 12 months.
While the guide is an important tool, NSW DPI recommends growers should always read chemical labels and permits before using a product and ensure compliance with specified directions and conditions.
