National soil moisture maps: May 2020

Solid rainfalls have supported soil moisture reserves in many parts of eastern Australia.

Recent rainfall has helped moisture supplies across the northern and central areas of Western Australia while the southern portion of the state has largely missed out.

On the east coast, excellent soil moisture levels remain setting up recently sown winter crops nicely.

South Australia, in particular, the Eyre and Yorke peninsulas will be looking for their turn for some solid rainfall to support the winter crop.

Compared to 2019, there is a more favourable soil moisture ranking across most of Australia, particularly in New South Wales, eastern Victoria and central northern areas of Western Australia. Only the Wimmera in Victoria is currently carrying moisture levels on par with last year.

These maps will switch to yield prediction next month and continue to be updated thanks to continued support from John Deere.
