FIELD trials have started for a new research project in Western Australia that is exploring the use of soil amelioration techniques and full soil profile re-engineering to make cropping more profitable.

Worth $22 million, the project seeks to boost grain yields by up to one tonne per hectare on sandy, gravel and duplex soils by addressing multiple constraints typically associated with these soils.
