THE AUSTRALIAN Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) has announced it is using gene technology to develop ways to improve the brewing performance of Australian barley varieties in Chinese markets.

AEGIC is investigating ways to make Australian malting barley more attractive to China's brewers.

AEGIC said the majority of Australia's premium malting barley is sold to China to service the world's largest beer drinking market.
