NEW Holland has been demonstrating its FR series Forage Cruisers and this week the Kondinin Group was able to inspect the FR780 near Echuca in Victoria.

There are four models in the range which peaks with the FR920 which is powered by an FPT V8, 20 litre diesel engine generating 920hp (676kW).

The FR780 inspected is powered by a six-cylinder FPT Cursor 16 engine which makes 574kW (780hp) of power. The engine runs with a Selective Catalytic Reduction emissions system which is Tier 4B compliant and this means the use of Adblue as well as diesel.

Cruisers can be used in a range of crops including corn, cereals and pastures and feeding is driven by what New Holland calls the HydroLoc drive.

There are four feed rollers and the feed opening is 860mm wide. Magnetic protection for steel objects and stone guarding is standard and if an obstruction is detected, the feeding mechanism will stop within 3/1000th of a second...
