VIDEO: Researchers test the big guns

KONDININ Group engineers Ben White and Josh Giumelli took some time this week to test a couple of ¾” drive impact wrenches.

The only two mainstream brands offering a ¾" drive in Australia being Milwaukee and Makita.

With claimed "nut-busting" torque of up to 1500Nm, the team set about building a test platform that could handle the significant forces involved.

Fabricated in Josh's Dardanup workshop, the test platform was mounted to a 2m length of I-beam which was then set into the ground to a depth of 900mm.

Utilising 30mm diameter bolts, a huge torque wrench capable of tightening nuts up to 1500Nm was sourced to tighten the nuts to the a series of increasing torque levels.

The results will now be analysed and appear in the July issue in the ever-popular From The Workshop section of Farming Ahead.
