Major renewable energy projects given green light in Victoria

THE Victorian government yesterday announced six major renewable energy projects in an effort to boost the amount of power generated from wind and solar farms.

The result of Victoria's first renewable energy auction, the six projects - to be located throughout regional Victoria - will generate more than 900 megawatts (MW) of clean energy.

The government hopes the projects will ultimately drive down energy prices in Victoria.
The auction was part of the Victorian Renewable Energy Targets (VRET) project and the VRET was initially expected to deliver at least 650MW of renewable energy.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Energy Lily D'Ambrosio yesterday visited the Ararat Wind Farm in Victoria to announce the six successful projects.

Together, the projects will generate $1.1 billion of economic investment in regional Victoria and create more than 900 jobs, including 270 apprenticeships and traineeship...
