Research Report: Side-by-sides (July 2020)

Side-by-sides, also referred to as Utility Terrain Vehicles or UTVs, are a topical machine according to Kondinin Group members and machinery dealers alike.

With Honda, Polaris and Yamaha all expected to withdraw from the Australian market citing government-imposed safety regulations, the quad bike market offering is shrinking. The side-by-side market on the other hand is growing with offerings from manufacturers who don’t market a quad bike.

And the range is significant, from models capable of safely carrying close to half a tonne in the rear to agile sporting models. Kondinin Group researchers, slightly hamstrung by COVID-19 travel restrictions, may not have been able to test drive all relevant models, but instead, got along to dealer yards and farms to look at as many as possible for an objective evaluation.
