THE price gap between young and heavy cattle widened in March, however the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) will likely settle back towards the price of heavy steers over the coming months, according to Rural Bank’s April Insights report.

Young cattle prices have climbed to new highs.

Young cattle prices in Australia surged to new highs in March, with the EYCI reaching 896c/kg carcase weight (cwt). Prices have since settled to around 880c/kg cwt in April.
