Mixed progress for east coast harvest

HARVEST in Queensland and northern New South Wales is set to wrap up, but progress continues to be hampered by rain along the east coast.

Mixed progress for east coast harvest

According to GrainCorp’s latest harvest report, rain in southern NSW and Victoria late last week caused delays, and the impact of the wet weather on the grain quality is yet to be determined.

In Queensland, the focus has now moved to post-harvest receivals, with the state’s total unlikely to exceed 2 million tonnes.

Similarly, the focus has shifted to post-harvest receivals in parts of NSW; however the southern area of the state is still in harvest mode, with 468,000 tonnes received last week.

The NSW harvest should comfortably pass 6Mt, and while Victoria’s progress is still slow in comparison, 836,000 tonnes were still delivered.

Overall, the east coast harvest is set to power past 10Mt, however there appears to be a strong chance of harvest continuing over the Christmas/New Year period in some areas.
