There are two species of brome grass that infest crops in southern Australia: great or ripgut brome (Bromus diandrus) and rigid brome (B. rigidus).
Researchers Christopher Preston, Peter Boutsalis, Sam Kleeman, Jenna Malone and Gurjeet Gill from the school of agriculture, food and wine at the University of Adelaide are trying to overcome the problem of brome grass, which is proving difficult to control because of its delayed emergence.
Harvest weed seed control can make a difference to reducing the impact of species like brome grass.
