The global financial crisis had a dramatic effect on the banking sector worldwide and while the Australian economy weathered the storm relatively unscathed, the rural banking sector was not completely immune to the effects of the credit crunch. Kondinin Group researchers Toni Nugent and Fleur Muller examine what has changed in rural banking as a result of the GFC and how more competition in the agribusiness sector is prompting Australian banks to better cater for their country clients.
