Improving returns for the grains industry

The project is based on 18 months of industry consultation and it’s hoped to encourage greater involvement in priority setting, investment and industry efficiency.
Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) managing director, John Harvey, said it is critical for people across all areas of the grains industry to understand the strategy and the opportunity it provides to engage in research delivery.
“The plan’s vision is for a profitable, competitive and sustainable grains industry, with spill-over benefits to the broader agricultural sector, the food processing industry and the Australian community,” Mr Harvey said.
An implementation committee, co-chaired by Mr Harvey and Grain Producers Australia southern region director, Andrew Weidemann, is being rolled out as part of the project.
Mr Weidemann said the committee is developing a process to collect broad cross-industry and government input into research and development needs.
“The committee will be presenting the progress and latest developments of the strategy at the Australian Grains Industry conference to be held in Melbourne during July,” he said.
