During 2010, mice plagues reduced potential yields almost a third in the worst affected crops in South
Australia. A combination of thinner crops and increased weeds contributed both to crop losses and to increased herbicide costs.

A review of control strategies during the year indicates the most effective prevention against crop loss is baiting at sowing — rather than after sowing.
