New website points to sensitive sites

Story Added : 15th May 2011

The site points producers to the location of any sensitive agricultural production systems in their region.

Grains Industries executive director, Peter Metcalfe, said the service aimed to assist growers with the preparation of risk assessment and risk mitigation plans for ongoing production.

“This map, which is accessible at the department’s website, is part of our response to make information simpler for growers to access,” he said.

“While this provides an additional information source for growers, it is important that growers continue to communicate directly with their neighbours.”

A sensitive site is considered a commercial property that needs consideration due to the nature of the production system such as certified organic, certified biodynamic, aquaculture, horticulture and viticulture.

The Sensitive Sites WA map will be updated each year to help ensure the information remains current.
